Despite the debt limit being extended, Democrats are looking to hold a potential vote to prevent a long term debt limit threat.
On Saturday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said the House has been considering removing the debt limit threat as early as this month. He stressed Republicans were effective in coming together to squash Democrats’ attempts to extend the ceiling.
“The House will explore options to remove the threat that the debt limit poses over the long term now that Republicans have demonstrated a willingness to weaponize it for partisan purposes,” Hoyer wrote. “The House may consider legislation as early as this month to do so.”

Some Democrats have suggested the authority to raise the debt limit should be transferred to the treasury secretary instead of Congress. However, current Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said America’s debt is something Congress must address.
