Police in Atlanta, Georgia said they are dealing with an uptick in crime that’s spilling into all parts of the city. Violent crime appears to be reaching a boiling point in the city with residents demanding change and police officers requesting help.
According to crime statistics released by the Atlanta Police Department, the city has seen more than 100 homicides so far this year and is begging the community to help aid in reducing crime. Reports show officers responded to six separate shootings this past weekend alone.
There has been a surge in drive-by shootings, which has devastated communities and families. However, police noted the killings mostly involve people who know each other. They are urging people to consider their actions before acting on them.
By June, reports show there was a 60 percent increase in homicide cases with additional increases in rapes, aggravated assaults and auto thefts in areas that typically do not have a widespread crime problem.
“You see, it spilling over into communities that have never really seen it at that magnitude before,” stated Antonio Brown of the Atlantic City Council. “Like, think about Buckhead; when’s the last time, even Midtown, where crime has been at this scale?”

The department has seen an increase in applications for new officers and is encouraging the community to thank officers for their service.
