Republican senators are speaking out in support of protesters in Cuba as Democrat socialists remain silent.

Specifically, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texsa) released a statement Monday in which he called demonstrators “brave” for standing up to the communist regime. He said communism on the island will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

The Biden State Department released a statement many considered weak as it did not mention the pain socialist communism has caused on the island for the last 62 years. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) also commented and asserted that the Biden administration’s response wasn’t good enough.

“Of course COVID  is the icing on the cake here because you’ve got a socialist regime that says to people you have no freedom, you have no independence, you have no ability to speak freely,” stated the Florida lawmaker. “But you have a really good healthcare system. They don’t!”

This is a ridiculous tweet from @StateDept

People in #Cuba are protesting 62 years of socialism, lies, tyranny & misery not “expressing concern about rising COVID cases/deaths”

Why is it so hard for @potus & the people in his administration to say that? #SOSCuba #PatriaYVida https://t.co/vLt8SCUXeK pic.twitter.com/gP0KapjvnQ

Both Cruz and Rubio have families from Cuba who were forced out after the revolution in 1959. They have called for the U.S. to openly stand with the Cuban people in their fight against communism.

Meanwhile, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel made a direct call for all communists in the country to band together and counter the anti-government protests.
