A former NFL player has been accused of killing five people in a shooting in South Carolina. According to reports Thursday, retired cornerback Phillip Adams shot Dr. Robert Lesslie at the doctor’s home in Rock Hill on Wednesday night.
The doctor and his wife Barbara died at the scene Wednesday along with two of their grandchildren as well as a fifth person who had been working at the home. A sixth victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Adams later turned the gun on himself. The search for the suspect ended after several hours when he was found dead at his own home.
“We have found the person we believe is responsible and we are with them at this time,” confirmed Trent Faris of the York County Sheriff’s Office. “And that’s all I can say about that.”

The 32-year-old played for several teams across a six-year career that started in 2010. Adams’ motive is not yet clear, but he had been treated by the doctor at one point.
