South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) has called for the resignation of the state’s attorney general. She further pushed Jason Ravnsborg to step down on Friday after reviewing the evidence and videos related to a legal case.
Ravnsborg was driving home from a political dinner last September when his car drifted off the side of the road. He ended up hitting and killing 55-year-old Joseph Boever.
The attorney general claimed he thought he hit a large animal rather than a person until he revisited the scene the next day. However, the governor said there’s only one way for the state to move forward.
“You know, I think this has been a tragic situation…not just for the victim’s family, which obviously is where my heart is, but also for our entire state,”stated Gov. Noem. ‘The quickest way for this to come to resolution is for the Attorney General to resign.”
Ravnsborg was given a loaner car by a local sheriff after the accident. He confirmed to investigators he was texting people on his drive home in the loaner to tell them he had been in an accident. He has absolutely no regard for anyone else’s safety. pic.twitter.com/RWixtBhtVh

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the attorney general said he has no intention of resigning. Ravnsborg is facing misdemeanor charges and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
