Joe Biden is set to visit Texas on Friday in the wake of extreme weather which has devastated the state.

Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Biden will meet with local leaders to discuss relief and recovery efforts, as well as “the incredible resilience shown by the people of Texas.” Biden approved a major disaster declaration in Texas over the weekend, amid widespread outages which left millions without power.

“He wants to go and show his support,” Psaki stated. “He also is fully aware of the footprint of a president of the United States and everything that comes with that, traveling to a disaster area.”

The White House said Biden has been in close contact with state and local officials in Texas to monitor recovery efforts. He is also planning to visit a health care center where COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed.
